The latest news and information about startups and innovations in education.
Greetings! This week we brought to you updates on the edtech initiatives and the prospects of funding around the world. We also included an article highlighting the importance to address digital inequality, which is fundamental to all pursuits of edtech.
The University of Virginia’s EdTech Evidence Exchange has launched the EdTech Genome Project, an effort to create a toolkit for decision makers to utilize when determining whether and how to adopt new technology in the classroom. The Project, with an advisory board of academic researchers, educators, technology investors, union leaders, and representatives of philanthropic organizations, is tracking the implementation, cost and other variables associated with edtech products to serve as a reference for administrators.
The edtech market is estimated to grow 3.7x in the next five years, from $2.8 Bn (2020) to $10.4 Bn (2025) With growing adoption during the lockdown months, edtech services and products are expected to have an addressable base of 37 Mn-plus paid users by 2025 While edtech was already growing, Covid-19 brought it more momentum, $1.4 Bn invested in the last 9 months. But how long will the bull run last?
Indonesian education technology (EdTech) companies have the potential to expand to a wider market, including vocational training and the digitization of schools, as the COVID-19 outbreak has increased the need for such services, experts have said.
The lockdown has brought the disparity into sharp relief; it’s now clear from numerous reports and surveys that teachers and schools were ill-prepared for a shift to digital education, and it’s the least-advantaged young people who have missed out most.
The reports have also highlighted that a new way forward is needed, not just to cope with local lockdowns, but also to gear-up our public education system for the future that has already arrived.
