Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) have been hot buzzwords in the tech market over the past few years, but by 2017, much of the euphoria had faded. High-end headsets remained pricey toys for tech enthusiasts. Mainstream consumers didn’t see compelling reasons to buy higher-end devices.
Worldwide shipments fell 30.5% annually to just 1.2m units during the 1Q of 2018.
